Inter Milan involved in Thrilling Draw

Inter Milan were involved in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Celtic in the first leg of the Europa League knockout match between the two. This puts the Italian club at an advantage going into the second leg at the San Siro, but this advantage could have been much wider had Inter Milan been more cautious in defending.

As it is, Roberto Mancini’s team will only have the advantage of having scored an away goal. Celtic still have a chance of causing an upset and reaching the next stage of the European competition. Mancini was disappointed with the way his team defended against the Scottish club.

Since the 1-0 defeat against Napoli in the Coppa Italia, Inter Milan have had two victories in the league. This gave them enough confidence going into the match against Celtic, who are once again running away with the league title in Scotland. However, they were expected to struggle against a much stronger team. It turned out to be the case after Celtic were trailing 2-0 after just 13 minutes following goals from Shaqiri and Palacio. However, it took Celtic only two minutes to get back on level terms after goals from Armstrong and an own goal from Campagnaro. Palacio’s injury time goal in the first half was cancelled out by an equally late goal in the second half by Celtic.

Walter Mazzarri running Milan at good Pace

Inter Milan is not going through the best of times as the club has experienced a change in the coaching staff after Walter Mazzarri was replaced by Roberto Mancini and the Italian side is located in the 11th spot in Serie A, it’s starting to seem highly unlikely that the club will be able to secure a Champions League or a Europa League position that would allow them to compete in either of the European competition in the upcoming season.

Despite being so far away from the high section of Serie A, Roberto Mancini remains confident that Inter Milan is going to turn things around and get back on track.

INTER WIN AGAIN

Inter Milan managed to win their second consecutive match in the league after a narrow 1-0 win over Sampdoria. This victory helped keep the club in the contention for a Champions League spot at the end of the season. Inter have taken just 15 points from the opening nine matches and they already trail leaders Juventus by a mammoth seven points. More importantly, just one point separates them from the third place in the league. Finishing in third place will be enough to get a club into the qualification stages of the Champions League.

After this win, manager Walter Mazzarri appeared to be a pleased man, but he was also aware that Inter would not be able to get victories against top teams if they had such poor finishing skills. He has stated that the club should target scoring more goals in the coming matches. Inter have averaged just over a goal per game, while also conceding a similar amount. The form of teams around them like AC Milan and Sampdoria will give them a lot of confidence going into the upcoming matches against Parma and Hellas Verona.

Inter will also have to concentrate on the Europa league in the meantime. They have made a fine start and are top of their Europa league group with seven points from the three matches. “We’ve beaten a side that had not lost once this season. The only negative is that we couldn’t take more of our chances,” the Inter coach said at a press conference. At the end of the day, we’ve won, but hopefully we’re saving up the goals for the next match. I think my team put in a great performance in terms of the football we played. We’re happy with how the lads are playing. This is a united group made up of good men. This team feels truly mine,” said Mazzarri.
